Ok, here's the deal. I have 4 of the Sokkia Stratus GPS units. I have used in the past with good success. It has been almost 1 1/2 years since I last used them. Lots of foggy memory. I need to use them tomorrow. I seem to remember that you need to let the units run if you have not in a while so that they will load a new ephemeris/almanac. Is this correct? I have let them run for 2 hours. I came in and downloaded a file of observations and also so a file under the ephemeris tab. It however bothers me. It has a heading of 1991/02/26 09:54:00 start 1991/02/26 12:00:00 end This makes me think that I have an old almanac and it did not update. Anybody know anything about this? All four units the same. I am trying to use these to establish traverse points on opposite sides of a swamp so that I can run the property line through the swamp. I have known points on each end, but need to connect the them through the swamp and would prefer to go through once to mark it. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated.
First - what software are you using?
If you are using spectrum then make sure that you have the latest versions with all the patches. Sometimes it is in the downloading of the str files where the dates reverts back topre 2000.
Second - if you are not using spectrum then it means that you are using a RINEX converted from the str files.
I think there was once an occasion wherein a coworker of mine had the same error but it was in the converted RINEX files. We could not process the files from Stratus when mixed with other brands of GPS. We finally found the error. Apparently when the str file was converted to RINEX the dates reverted to 1991. Since the other gps rinex files were from after 2000 then the vectors to the stratus units were never calculated. I think he downloaded a newer version of spectrum survey and that solved the problem.
