Available Obsolete Equipment

Posted by R A Hill on Jun 10, 2011 5:43 pm

Anyone know of a yard rod for sale? These were sold by K&E in the '70s and '80s. They are a one piece rod with a back brace and a steel foot. The rod face is metal and under tension by a spring at the top of the rod. There is a hole in the side of the rod into which a special thermometer can be inserted to contact the back of the rod face. The face is graduated in yards, tenths of a yard and hundredths of a yard. These were used with a Zeiss NI2 with 1:100 stadia wires. Reading the three wires and adding them gives the rod reading in feet. They were very accurate and with due care easily met second order requirements.

Regards to all,

Roger

These rods were not used with a 1:100 stadia ratio. They were used with a 0.3:100 stadia ratio.
