Batteries for Sokkia GSR2700 ISX needed ASAP

Posted by Darren McCormick on Jun 24, 2011 2:51 pm

Hi:

I need batteries for our Sokkia GSR2700 ISX base and rover units asap.

This is the first time I have needed to replace these batteries. Battery label reports specs (Model GBP 700, 10.8 Volt, 2500 mAH) and manufacturer's web address (www.point-inc.com); however, when trying to access this web site I get a page that says: " Point, Inc. has been acquired by Topcon Sokkia Co., LTD. Please click on the Sokkia link below to redirect to the global Sokkia web site for your GNSS product needs." I don't see any other relevent hits through Google searches for the GBP 700 battery

I contacted Sokkia Canada and they are telling me there is an 8 week delivery on these batteries! It is hard to believe that equipment costing this much will be more or less out of commission for 8 weeks due to batteries being unavailable.

If anyone has a source for GBP 700 batteries for the Sokkia GSR2700 ISX, I would appreciate hearing about it!

Many thanks!

I may be thinking of another unit, but I believe (off the top of my pointy little head), that TOPCON now sells the Sokkia GSR2700 ISX (or a similar receiver) as the TOPCON Hiper II (see link below).

If that looks like your receiver (aside from color), then you might contact a Topcon dealer and inquire about batteries.

Any local dealer should have the batteries in stock and ready to ship. Why not contact the dealer you purchased the receivers from initially?

Loyal, it's the newer Sokkia GRX 1 which looks similar to the Topcon Hiper II, the GSR2700 ISX is an earlier system, different battery and different voltage.

A stop gap solution might be to rig an external battery plugged into the external power/charger socket.

Darren, try a Google search for "GSR2700 ISX internal battery" and there's a dealer in the US and one in Canada offering these, whether they have them in stock of course is another matter. I'll be bearing them in mind when I replace batteries again as Sokkia spares are 2-3 more expensive in the UK, where I'm based.

My initial attempt to get replacement batteries was through the dealer we purchased through - they directed me to Sokkia Canada. I have contacted the Canadian dealer found through the Google search mentioned above - he too says the batteries will be unavailable for atleast 8 weeks. He reports that he has taken calls from all over the world from other folks looking for these batteries.

I have left a message with the US dealer found through the Google search - here's hoping he has stock.

Here we are, 12 weeks after my first attempt (back in June) to get batteries for our Sokkia GSR2700 ISX base and rover, and Sokkia Canada is telling me the batteries still are not available. They also are unable to provide a date when the batteries will be available!

Back in June I also contacted the Sokkia Head Office in the U.S. - they too are unable to supply/source batteries.

We use our GSR2700 ISX units during research efforts directed at evaluating forest management impacts on aquatic ecosystems. This requires work on both impacted and undisturbed sites (range of difficulties in terms of access). External batteries are not a reasonable option here.

This is extremely frustrating. I imagine folks who purchased and use these units to put bread on the table must be even more frustrated.

Hi:

An update on the availability (or lack there of) of batteries for the Sokkia GSR2700 ISX that I solicited from Sokkia Canada earlier today:

"Last reports from Head Office indicated ETA was February 2012.

I will confirm if there has been any further improvement on this, and revert.

Thank you for your support for Sokkia Products."

I'm not sure how reliable this estimate might be.
