Nikon/Trimble/Spectra Users

Posted by ticktock on Aug 17, 2010 4:13 am

Hi,

I am having some trouble with the new Nikon Nivo total stations, does anyone know of an independent forum where I can discuss my issues with other Nikon users?

I do in fact work for a supplier specialising in sales, service and calibration of Nikon instruments and know that support is a bit of a circus sometimes. We are seeing a trend with new instruments and would just like to get the views of other users. Communications between Nikon dealers is very insular and getting real information out of Trimble, well, we won't go there.

Does anyone have an opinion of the Nikon Nivo, Spectra Precision Focus6/8 and Trimble M3, which all share a similar platform, good or bad?

I have personally worked on many different manufacturer's instruments and can safely say that Nikon has made some real gems in the past, but the current lineup is lacking in some aspects. Trimble has left us in an awkward position, not giving us access to sell Trimble branded equipment and handing out the cheaper, identical Spectra Focus series to competitors. It seems like a real fall from grace for the Nikon Geotecs brand.

Your thoughts?

Interested to hear how you go Dan. Which accuracy have you gone with, 2", 3" or 5"?
