The Mobile Scanning Webinar

Posted by Kristi Grahl on Sep 8, 2010 7:30 am

Are you attending the Sept. 9 Webinar, Mainstream Your Business Into 3D Mobile Scanning? What questions do you have about mobile scanning that you would like the presenter, Jim Van Rens, to address? I'll be moderating the Webinar, so this is a great opportunity to help focus the presentation on the areas you're interested in. Post your questions here, and I'll add them to the queue. Immediately following the presentation, Jim will be available on RPLS.com to answer additional questions that are posted to this thread.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks for the reminder. I just went and signed up. I cannot think of any specific questions although I'm sure I will formulate some after watching the presentation.

This was a good webinar. I've been interested in the topic lately. I can see applications for this technology, but at this time in our economy I think the implementation will be slow.

I was taken aback at the estimated startup costs, approximately $750K-$1Million. That will put this out of reach for all but a few VERY large firms.

I was an early adopter of GPS and I think that over the years it has been beneficial for me to have done that. BUT, the startup costs were less than $100K for me at that time. I could get started today for under $25K.

Another factor I don't understand in this is the potential income and client list for this type technology. With the high investment, you would have to catch a very well-heeled client (read government) to be able to turn a profit.

I may have to wait on the sidelines for this one.

Keith,

Thank you for the feedback

Yes it is expensive.  There are some teaming arrangements being discussed among firms.

Short term the clients are the DOTs(safety) and the Design/Build projects(speed)

Let me know if you need any information

Best regards,

Jim
