Trimble Access File

Posted by DJ Schwarz on Dec 28, 2011 1:45 pm

We recently did a small topo project using Trimble R-8 base and 5800  and R-8 rovers.  We had tied in the main control and did a network adjustment for the control.  A day after the control was finished, a crew did some continuous topo work with the rover on a magnetic attachment to the survey truck.  During the process of the topo, there were a few communication errors and new base station detected notes.  A set of approximately 75 points that were recorded have Lat: 90°00'00.00000"N and Long: 135°00'00.00000"W and Height of -20855451.697.  These points were time stamped with the exact same time.  Has anyone had this happen before?

Haven’t ran across your exact problem, but I have been using Trimble equipment for the past 20+ years, seems like from the 4800 series on up to today’s R8 GNSS when a new base station is detected and accepted it completely destroys the DC file. I’ve made that mistake a couple of times and had to reload an earlier version of the file and resurvey.

It appears after some research and talking to the guy who did the work that you are correct about the "New Base Station" detected error.  He was having some problems keeping the rover in contact with the base and the controller so he started using a different rover.  We looked a little deeper into the file and noticed that he somehow recorded over 120 points at exactly the same time with precisely the same lat/long.  We manually deleted them out of the file on the dc and re-imported the file and it worked as expected.  In the original project file we manually deleted that set of points and the correct set of data points miraculously appeared.  We are still puzzled as to why and how the points got recorded while he did not have a rover powered on.
