Sorry if this sounds like a complaint but it is. Please tell me how to fix this problem. When I visit the site I see nice clean posts in the "recent" window. Then I log in and see all the political posts of people who spell the president's name wrong and they just sneer at me. In the old board I just shut off that category and never saw them which was better for my health. Is there a solution other than avoiding this site. It seems to be infecting me with a virus.
Paul
I think the category choice is one of the things planned. I use the ALL ACTIVITY because I want to see updates to the forums, blogs, pictures but I too would welcome a way to avoid any of the things from the lounge. I just do not want to get sucked in to any of those types of discussions. I've seen friendships ruined and once enemies then this often overlaps into the other categories.
The ALL ACTIVITIES is the only way that I have found to get around all the different compartments. Hopefully, these will be greatly reduced to facilitate not getting lost in the tall grass.
I notice when I go "Over There" I come away feeling angered and dismayed...especially when a poster personally attacks me...sometimes I think of posting the same poison but try to overcome it......it is a dark and evil place for sure........
This Board was re-designed to give those with no stomach for debate more control. The control lies in the mouse. You must click on a post to read it. It is quite easy to set up the screen to suit your custom needs. Try reading FAQ's instead of the Lounge.
In fact just try reading. Then you would understand the reason behind things like this:
Khadaffi, Kaddafy, Gaddafy
Osama Bin Laden, Usama Bin Laden
Obama, Obamuh
I often disagree with Rich, Dane, Mike Falk and others, but we all don't hide behind anonymity. So we sometimes passionately disagree, I don't recall us resorting to "name calling". We just disagree and argue our positions.

Using a pseudonym does not make one a "troll". A troll posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response.
From Wiki:
Application of the term troll is highly subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the discussion, even if controversial. The term is often used as an ad hominem strategy to discredit an opposing position by attacking its proponent.
Some of the worst offenders use their full names.

Now go back and read Gunter ..........and Beer Legs......and come to you own conclusion!
I understand, Kieth. But it is not their anonymity that is the issue.
Is their behavior any different than Binge's statement that I support Islamic terrorists? Not in my view.
Internet debate can, and often does, get testy and emotional. People challenge closely held beliefs, aggrieved parties respond in kind. Twas ever thus.
To return to topic, I agree, Paul, that a switch to isolate the septic field sandbox is useful.

For MLB, there is a difference between Quaddhafi / Gaddhafi / et cetera versus Obama / Obamuh - that being transliteration between arabic characters and english in the first instance versus transliteration between english characters and illiteracy in the second instance. Who's going around saying or writing "Obamuh" anyways? Maybe it's common in your circle, but not in mine.
For Keith, as to your so-called "trolls" let's look at how many political threads I've started as compared to those doing the most complaining, i.e. yourself, Keith? Take a look at how many political threads I've started versus how many you've started, and it's plain to see that you're far more guilty of stirring the pot and starting the fights than I am. It's plain to see that I don't start the fights. I end them. With the facts. Picking fights and then complaining about how they turn south on you, that's rich. Pretty much your mouth writing checks that you can't make good on.
As to anonymity, when you've confused the messenger with the message, you've already lost the argument. Anonymity is irrelevant to the debate.
When you put something politically controversial or unfactual out there, it's fair game for debate. Debate consists of counter arguments and rebuttals. That's how it works. "He who shouts loudest wins" ended in grade school. This is now the grown-up world.
Keith's problem is that he can't handle having his uninformed Limbaugh sound bites debated, and consequently countered, decimated, debunked and ripped to shreds with facts and reality.
Like it or not, this message board does not just represent the narrow far-right 20% of America. No, it represents a broad cross section of America - and the world, for that matter, with ample representation from abroad. If Keith or anyone else want to be able to express their political opinions without any debate or counter opinion, then I'd suggest going to a right wing echo chamber that caters to that ultraconservative, far-right 20% of America, I'm sure there are Rush Limbaugh fan sites where he can connect with those who agree with him. But out here in the real world, outside of the right wing echo chamber, that's simply not going to happen. Ever. Here, honest debate happens. If you can't handle honest debate, then that's your problem, not mine.
Sometimes it is truly baffling to read responses based on such disconnected interpretations. This thread was not started by a classic "troll". It was started by a chronic complainer. Yet Gunter says immediately the "Right Wing" doesn't welcome debate. I submit Gunter's reading skills are deficient. The "Facts" he posts are routine canned crap from Left Wing Blogs which are obviously holier than the Right Wing Blogs.
The numbers are what the numbers are. People had input to how this Board was constructed. Popularity of topic and form were considered. But at least the complaint had a name attached. Which is a lot more than I can say for the "analysis".
MLB
MLB, I didn't participate in any requirements gathering or beta testing for this board. So I have no insights or commentary to offer there. As for the rest of your commentary, my response is 100% on topic to this thread in that I was responding to being specifically named and singled out as a "political pot stirrer" and "anonymous troll". If you have a problem with the disconnect, then blame Keith. I wasn't the one to start this thread down that tangent. Also, care to cite any recent specifics on where I've quoted from left wing blogs? I'm really curious about that one, because I don't visit any left wing blogs.
Keith, what specific allegation are you asking me to prove? The one about you not being able to read the document that I referenced and needing to be spoon-fed? I already posted some sections from it long before you even responded here. So as to my allegation, you've pretty much proven me right, yourself. Other than that, I have no idea what you are talking about. And... where do you get this nonsense about me being a GS-8?
Try to read this and understand...............one more time.
ON another thread, you said, And meanwhile, Congressional Budget Office and others not only confirm this but show thatthe GOP strategy of tax cuts is the least-effective way of stimulating the economy. and I simply asked you to post a quote that stated that.
Sorta simple, but so far you are not capable of doing so. You can post cites to the constitution, to the Congressional Record, to the policy of the CBO and none of it answers the question.
Do you understand the question?
The GS-8 comment is probably an inside joke that you can't get anyway.
MLB and Kieth have infected this thread. The reason I put political in quotations at the title was to infer the infected posts and posters are not really political. They are merely brawling, name calling, self-centered and of no substance. There is really no point to what they say. I would not like to see it here, in the recent activity window nor read any of it. It is merely bitter unpleasant bickering and is out of order. I do not like to log in and even glance at the titles of some of the threads that are started or continue in the "lounge" now or ever and I was afforded that opportunity in the old board by being able to turn that category off completley, meaning I did not see the threads or their titles. I would like that opportunity again.
I posted, by title and date, several CBO publications.
Wasn't good enough for you. Can't be bothered to look anything up, apparently.
I then went back and posted some actual quotations from one of those documents, which directly state that tax cuts for the rich are not as effective in boosting the economy as other forms of stimulus.
And still here you are having "reading difficulties".
I can't help you if you are incapable of reading. Evidently you are struck blind whenever you see something that doesn't agree with the Word of God (i.e. Rush Limbaugh).
"The GS-8 comment is probably an inside joke that you can't get anyway." - Probably? Either a joke is a joke, or it isn't. "Probably" sure makes it sound like you didn't get it. Don't get too ambitious on hopes for that second career in stand-up comedy.
For Paul Montero, it seems the requirements weren't fully thought out - the politics posts certainly could be filtered out via a preferences setting.
MLB and Kieth have infected this thread Really? What did you think was going to happen when you threw down the gauntlet? Differing opinions are still allowed. Burying your head in the sand is NOT going to make them go away. It just makes you look very foolish.
Squinty and Gunter get a pass. By this you reveal your bias as well. You do have options. You can always goto SpongeBobPlumToo and get a lecture on classic two-bit rebar identification.

I truly hate to hijack a thread by injecting something purely non sequitor, but in this case I believe it clearly applies. Count the posts in recent activity and see with your own eyes what appears to be most popular on this here Professional Board. You make the call. I just report, you decide.

Hopefully we have equally educated professionals discussing how they envision certain politics and policy affecting their income. Sorrifully it appears we have all been negatively affected by recent politics and political caused crisis, but there are those more willing to accept it because it is for the better good.
