I've been researching CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software lately and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. This type of software can be used to manage preventative & scheduled maintenance for a mind-boggling variety of systems including vehicles (fleet), field equipment, heavy equipment, factories, facilities, etc.
Most of the systems out there look like they do way too much for what I need. I just need something that will help my company keep track of scheduled maintenance on about 20 trucks, a couple boats, the odd four wheeler, and 12 field crew’s worth of conventional and GPS equipment spread out over half a dozen offices. Basically something that sends e-mail reminders when the oil needs changing, a scheduled service interval has been reached, or when it has been a while since a level has been pegged or a total station has been sent in cleaning and calibration.
Does anyone out there use something like this? We’ve outgrown our Excel spreadsheets.
Have you looked at www.emaint.com? It appears to have all of the functions you mention at a low price. it's web-based and looks like you can try it out first.
Contact Maintenance Connection - sales[at]maintenanceconnection.com (www.maintenanceconnection.com/mcv18/online/MC_cmms_free_test_drive.htm). You can sign-up for a free trial as well. They cater to a large number of different industries and are very user friendly, with the ability to hide modules/fields that you do not want to use.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm afraid if I try to build my own I'll approach it with too narrow of a scope and miss out the experience & insight of people who are much more familiar with CMMS than I am. I'll look into both emaint & Maintenance Connection. I like the idea of a web-based serice becasue we're spread out over several offices.
There are lots of things to consider with a CMMS software –
1. Your budget
2. Your requirements
3. The type of business you are into
4. Do you have a traditional paper or excel based documentation system?
5. What reports you want
6. The type of scheduling you require
Keep these points in mind, then deciding on a CMMS software will be easier.
