Thank you, Professor Stahl

Posted by Radar on May 13, 2011 2:57 pm

I just wanted to say thank you to J. B. Stahl, for all that he does for the greater good of all surveyors.

I was able to attend his class on mediation, at the ACSM/LSAW conference in Spokane a couple years ago and it has really helped me with a lot of my projects. If you ever get a chance to sit in on one of JB's seminars don't pass it up, you won't be sorry.

I am finishing up a particularly nasty job, where my clients neighbor is/was parking junk over the line, as much as 15 feet. To make matters worse, the deeds leave much to be desired. I was able to talk to my client about what was equitable and reasonable for both parties. They remain friendly neighbors and my client was very thankful that I helped him resolve his problem. I'm not sure I could have handled it as easily as I did, without taking the good professors class, thanks again John.

Thank you, Radar, for the kind words.  I often wonder just how much impact the seminars I present have upon those who attend.  I get comments from the attendees all the time, but I seldom hear if there are lasting effects.  It's comments like this that really do make the effort worthwhile.  I just returned from Arizona's state conference after a two-day session dealing with the surveyor's role in conflict resolution.  The most encouraging part of the trip was being able to sit one-on-one with a young surveyor, filled with excitement, and rejuvinated with encouragement to make a difference for our profession.  As a solo operator, invitational speaking provides one of the few opportunities available to me for mentoring.  That's the biggest thing I miss not having my own employees anymore.

And, You're Welcome.  It is truly my pleasure.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in finding out what Radar is talking about to plan on attending my upcoming session on August 29th and 30th in New Orleans!

Thanks again John,

A lot of surveyors I talk to, seem to think we are just fact finders. Let the lawyers resolve the conflicts, that's their job, is what they try to tell me. It was a good thing that I attended your seminar, otherwise I might have been in the same boat..

My client told me he talked to another surveyor who gave him a price range and told him it would run into more, once the problem went to court. I told him that I always tell people to try to resolve the issue on their own Judges don't like to see these kinds of cases and will tell you to try to work it out on your own anyway. He liked my way a lot better and saved him money in the long run.

I wish I could afford to go to New Orleans, sounds like it's going to be a blast! Hope you get a big crowd, if not, they don't know what they're missing.

Any seminars scheduled in Northern California in near future?  Do you have any reference materials or pre-reading that would benefit a Licensed Surveyor such as myself who desires to engage in Mediation services?
