Heading down for my nieces wedding on Sunday 10/17/10...FAmily rehearsel dinner Friday night in Mclean, but saturday is the wedding shower and the girls will be busy.
Trying to figure the best way to spend the afternoon...Mount Vernon maybe? something else close but outside? maybe just DC again, it's a great place to visit!
Three weeks ago, we were in the Arlington area and in DC.
The National Building Museum was interesting. They had an interesting exhibit on Palladian architecture (Andrea Palladio) which included Jefferson's design for a Presdiential residence (which lost out to the winning design byJames Hoban). A nice lego skyscraper exhibit for the younger set (if it's still on display). And an impressive building, even by Washington standards.
Also spend a couple of hours in the East Building of the National Gallery of Art, on the Mall near the Capitol.
The Newseum (not part of the Smithsonian, so it isn't free) is also a good way to spend the afternoon.
The Roosevelt Memorial is a nice spot near the Tidal Basin, filled with sculptures, waterfalls and walking paths.
