  • Mark Mayer (Jul 2, 2010) The volume does not go high enough to be heard when beside a busy road. Other than that it works fine. I'm not sure how much money the convenience factor is worth. If this unit was the same price as a "standard" Schonstedt I'd by this one. If this one is a couple of hundred more I'd buy the standard. But I do most of my work out of the truck. If you are packing things a lot on foot or on a 4 wheeler that portablity may be worth more to you than it is to me.
  • Northern S... (Jun 22, 2010) I too bought and use this unit. It is a bit different than other Schonstedts as mentioned by the other reviewers, but I now really find it one of the easiest to use. The batteries seem to last and last, have not changed them in three years use. It is not to cumbersome to use the supplied holster and carry on your hip. The curious kids though think you are armed with a laser gun though!!! Comes with a Schonstedt quality of storage/shipping case.
  • Deral at Ho... (May 19, 2010) Small,very light and compact. I love the holster that makes it easy to use then put away. Saves hands for those already filled with a shovel and other equipment.

    It does require a different technique compared to older models. Your instinct is to try put the end very near the ground.this is not necessary
    And will only give you a backache if you are tall.

    I give it thumbs up. Battery life is very good and we use it daily with no downtime since it first came out.

    I found the digital meter far more useful than the sound when searching using the XT. We did a lot of road topo's and the traffic noise always made hearing the speaker very hard. I found after some experience that I rarely listened to the sound any longer.

    Since we got our RTK then we often would split into one man crews so having one less thing to carry was very handy for us. We did modify the holster though. Poked a hole in the bottom and made a leather leg tie down. The thing would beat you to death otherwise.
